Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated with gender issues and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. She had a plan to start a web-based series examining gender-based representations in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. This attack was not enough to deter her. It actually made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critique. Her many notable contributions in the feminist field are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit examines how women are depicted in pop culture today.
